Sometimes, we are blue, actually, too blue to see any other color in the world. Whenever an idea comes to mind, that unanswerable question (according to the blue-state-of-mind) pops up along with it: Why should I?
"I wanna go out...
Why should I?"
"I wanna have fun..
Why should I?"
"I wanna do something with my life...
Why should I?"
Everything loses taste, color and reason. There is no reason to do anything in the world other than staying put and enjoying nothinginess. Have you ever been there before??
It seems like an endless vicious circle that goes on forever.. round and round and round... with no way out. It will totally consume you, and sooner or later, you will find out that you are no longer going round in it; you are now part of it.
How to break the vicious circle?
As tight as the circle might seem, it is very fragile once you step out of it. Stepping out takes a lot of courage, self-esteem, and self-respect. The moment in which you decide to step out of it is that moment in which you say "NO."
No, I deserve more than a remote control and a couch.
No, I will not be just another nobody.
No, I will not give up on myself.
It's hard to stop the voice in your head that will keep nagging "no, you're not gonna make it. Come ooon.. give it up!"
So, put your hands on your ears, and say it aloud, "SHUT UP! I BELIEVE IN MYSELF AND I'M GONNA MAKE IT!"
Now, you are stepping out of the circle...
Go grab the phone and call a friend of yours. Go out and try to have fun.
Do something that you used to like in your rosy days, and you have not done for long.
Get in touch with the old you when you were a kid; when you used to enjoy every little thing.

Dear Basma ...
ReplyDeleteI can't tell u how I felt when I read these words of urs about shaking it and getting down to buisness right away. How we shudn't put those mental barriers we always put in front of ourselves, and how our own worse enemy is "us". Which is weird because minutes before I read ur words I have been reading about "mental landmines" .. it's the negative feelings, thoughts and concepts we keep injecting ourselves and others with, Mental barriers that we build day after day untill one day we r no longer able to even think of the possibilty of being happy. So I think yes .. we need what Steven Covey calls a "Paradigm Change" .. but this time we need to change the paradigm that represents us, our abilities, goals, aims, and motives. We need to work for our happiness, cus right now, the fiercest drawback in our way to happiness and the oldest enemy preventing us from reaching it is our own negative attitude. I think it's about time we all change .. n be more positive :D
I have read one of ur poems once, the poem about the "one eyed man" and I loved it so much .. brilliant ... I wonder why I don't see more of ur work here?
Way to go Basma ... can't wait to reas more :)
The feeling blue syndrom, or the whole negative aura ppl like to bathe in...
ReplyDeletesometimes u don't even have that conversation in the head, you simply just fall, gave up ages ago, u don't need to dimotivate urself anymore, its already become part of who you are.
