I remember I used to laugh out loud as I watched Mr. Bean take photos of himself (selfies). I used to think "how sad, lonely, and unnatural! Poor Mr. Bean!"
It was meant to be very sarcastic and sad to show a man having no friends or no one to keep his company or even communicate with but a teddy bear, so as so he has to take his own pictures; no one is there to even take his pictures!
Now, selfies are the new "cool"!
Call it technology, modern age, or whatever else. The sad fact is that we are getting more detached from each other, more alone and lonely. The scary thing is that we now think we are doing it in style!
It makes you think, doesn't it?
Finally, a new post by you, Basbousa. I agree with you about the sadness of Mr. Bean. I think the best selfies, emotionally, are those which are taken by a group.
